Jabal al-Nour (Mountain of Light) Ascent
moderateThe sacred mountain containing the Cave of Hira where the first Quranic revelation occurred. Approximately 1,800 uneven stone steps lead to the summit, where the cave and panoramic views of Makkah reward the climb.
Al Shafa Summit Trail, Taif
moderateA rewarding mountain trail ascending to Al Shafa village at 2,200 meters elevation, offering spectacular views of the Hejaz Mountains and valleys below. The trail passes through juniper forests and terraced mountain farms.
Al Hada Valley Walk
easyA pleasant walk through the scenic Al Hada valley, following terraced mountain roads through berry farms and past the cable car station. Excellent views of the valley below and surrounding cliffs.
Jabal Thawr Ascent
hardA challenging climb to the Cave of Thawr where Prophet Muhammad took refuge during the Hijra. Steeper and more demanding than Jabal al-Nour with rough terrain, but significant spiritual and historical importance.

Hiking Safety

- Loose rocks on mountain trails in Taif and Makkah areas — wear proper hiking footwear
- No shade on Jabal al-Nour and Jabal Thawr trails — very exposed; start before 7AM in warmer months
- Crowds on Jabal al-Nour during Hajj and Umrah season can create safety hazards — visit in shoulder season
- Limited mobile signal in remote Taif mountain areas — download offline maps before hiking
