Local Hazards

  • Extreme heat April-October — always carry minimum 2 liters of water per person for any hike

  • Loose rocks on mountain trails in Taif and Makkah areas — wear proper hiking footwear
  • No shade on Jabal al-Nour and Jabal Thawr trails — very exposed; start before 7AM in warmer months
  • Crowds on Jabal al-Nour during Hajj and Umrah season can create safety hazards — visit in shoulder season
  • Limited mobile signal in remote Taif mountain areas — download offline maps before hiking

February-April ideal for Taif rose farm area hikes; Makkah area hikes doable but warming

☀️ Summer

Only Taif mountains are recommended in summer (May-September) due to altitude cooling; coastal and Makkah hikes should be avoided due to extreme heat

🍂 Fall

October-November — excellent hiking weather returning as temperatures cool

❄️ Winter

November-February — best overall hiking season throughout the province; Taif can be cool at night
