Mogosoaia Palace sits on the shore of Lake Mogosoaia in Ilfov County, about 15 km northwest of central Bucharest, and is one of the finest surviving examples of Brancovenesc architecture in Romania. Constantin Brancoveanu, ruler of Wallachia, built it between 1698 and 1702 as a country residence for his family. The palace has a distinctive plan with a covered loggia facing the lake, carved stone window frames and columns, an open balcony overlooking the garden and a blend of Byzantine, Ottoman and Venetian Renaissance details. After Brancoveanu's execution in Istanbul in 1714 the property passed through several owners and in the early 20th century belonged to Princess Martha Bibescu, who restored it and hosted artists and writers. Today the palace houses the Brancoveanu Art Museum, which displays medieval and Romanian decorative art, carved wood, icons, textiles and manuscripts, and often stages temporary exhibitions. The surrounding park of old trees and lakeside paths is a popular place for walks and picnics, and the small Saint George Church in the grounds, also from the Brancoveanu era, is part of the visit. A typical visit takes two to three hours including the park. The best photographs are from the lake edge, where the loggia and its reflection are visible, and from the park paths in autumn. Weekday mornings in spring or autumn are quietest; weekends in summer bring families and events, and the site hosts concerts and festivals. Photography inside the museum requires an additional fee. Dress for uneven gravel paths. A cafe and restaurant operate near the entrance. Getting there by ride-hailing takes about 25 minutes, and returning may require booking a car as traffic and availability vary.
