Feira da Vandoma

Feira da Vandoma is Porto's oldest flea market, spread along the Alameda das Fontainhas overlooking the Douro valley in the Porto Sé area. Every Saturday morning, dozens of vendors lay out antiques, vintage clothing, old ceramics, hand-painted azulejo tiles pulled from demolished buildings, coins, vinyl records, and general bric-a-brac on tarps and folding tables. Unlike the souvenir stalls found near Ribeira, the goods here are genuinely secondhand and locally sourced, so the ratio of authentic finds to tourist trinkets is high, though buyers need a trained eye to separate real antique azulejos from recent reproductions. Bargaining is expected and part of the culture — vendors typically build a margin into the asking price, and cash (euros) is the only accepted payment; there is no card infrastructure and no tax-refund scheme at this informal market. The atmosphere is unpolished and local, with regulars who have sold at the same spot for decades, and little in the way of food stalls beyond the odd coffee cart, so visitors often eat afterward in the nearby Sé or Miragaia neighborhoods. The market runs along a long stretch of pavement rather than fixed aisles, with the best antique-furniture and azulejo dealers typically clustered toward the cathedral end of the alameda, while the vintage-clothing and general junk tables spread further downhill toward the river.
