Home Lisbon Hostel occupies a converted historic townhouse on Rua de São Nicolau in Lisbon's Baixa grid — the flat, pedestrianised commercial heart of the city. The location is exceptionally central: Rossio square is a three-minute walk north, Praça do Comércio and the Tagus waterfront are five minutes south, and Baixa-Chiado metro station (serving both the Blue and Green lines) is a four-minute walk. The hostel has appeared repeatedly near the top of Hostelworld's European rankings for social atmosphere and value.

The building retains original period tile floors and wooden ceilings in the common areas, including a ground-floor patio courtyard that serves as the hostel's main social hub. Accommodation is in 6- and 8-bed mixed dormitories and a small number of private double rooms. Dormitory bunks include individual reading lights, power sockets, and lockable storage beneath each bed.

All guests receive free breakfast each morning — typically bread, pastries, coffee, and juice — served in the communal dining room, which also functions as an informal gathering point before the day begins. A communal kitchen is available for self-catering. The front desk operates around the clock; staff maintain a noticeboard of recommended local bars, restaurants, and day-trip routes.

There is no in-house bar or restaurant beyond breakfast. Home Lisbon appeals primarily to budget-conscious solo travellers and backpackers who want a social base in a historically central neighbourhood. The private double rooms provide more separation for couples or travellers who want their own space without paying mid-range hotel prices.
