Hotel Príncipe Real

Hotel Príncipe Real occupies a restored nineteenth-century townhouse at 53 Rua da Alegria, on the southern boundary of the Príncipe Real neighbourhood. The district is one of Lisbon's more quietly prosperous quarters, known for its antique dealers concentrated along Rua Dom Pedro V, independent fashion boutiques, and the shaded Jardim do Príncipe Real — a garden square four minutes on foot from the hotel. Bairro Alto's evening restaurant and bar scene begins immediately south; Avenida da Liberdade is a fifteen-minute walk. The Rato metro station (Yellow Line) is approximately eight minutes on foot.

The building's Pombaline-era proportions — high ceilings, deep window recesses, wide timber floors — have been preserved and the current fit-out layers boutique-contemporary styling over the historic bones: white walls, muted natural-fibre textiles, and ceramics by Portuguese artisans. Classic, superior, and deluxe double rooms progress in size and in garden or terrace outlook, with the deluxe category including private outdoor access in selected configurations. A junior suite provides a separate sitting area. All rooms include air conditioning and daily housekeeping.

A shaded garden terrace at the rear is set for breakfast and afternoon drinks, functioning as an informal gathering space in fine weather. The bar carries a focused Portuguese wine and spirits selection. No full-service restaurant operates beyond breakfast, but Príncipe Real has among the highest density of quality independent restaurants in Lisbon — natural wine bars, Portuguese-Japanese fusion, and traditional petiscos are all within two or three blocks. Concierge staff specialise in neighbourhood-specific dining recommendations and cultural bookings. The hotel is adult-focused in character with a relaxed, residential atmosphere.
