Four Seasons Hotel Ritz Lisbon

Four Seasons Hotel Ritz Lisbon stands on Rua Rodrigo da Fonseca at the junction with Marquês de Pombal, Lisbon's primary commercial crossroads, with Avenida da Liberdade's luxury shopping boulevard extending immediately to the south. The Marquês de Pombal Metro station (Yellow and Blue lines) is directly in front of the building; Parque Eduardo VII, the city's principal urban park, is a five-minute walk uphill.

The hotel opened in 1959 to a design by the Portuguese architect Pardal Monteiro and was conceived as a statement of mid-century Portuguese civic ambition. The building houses an extensive collection of Portuguese art and decorative pieces—tapestries, azulejo panels, sculptural commissions—distributed across public areas and corridors. Four Seasons assumed management in 1998 and has progressively refurbished the property while preserving its original character.

The 282 rooms and suites are organised across seven categories, from classic rooms to the Presidential Suite. All are generously proportioned by urban hotel standards, with marble bathrooms, bespoke furniture, and detailed finishing. Butler service is available from junior suite level upward. Park-view rooms overlook the Eduardo VII garden to the north; city-facing rooms take in the roofscape toward the castle.

The Varanda restaurant operates one of the most well-regarded buffet lunches in Lisbon, drawing both hotel guests and Lisbon residents. Fine dining is available at dinner. The Ritz Bar is a formal setting with live music on selected evenings. Afternoon tea is served in the hall on a scheduled basis.

The Spa by Four Seasons spans 1,100 square metres with an indoor heated pool, a full range of treatment rooms, sauna, steam, and a well-equipped fitness centre with cardio and weight equipment. An outdoor pool operates seasonally on the terrace. Valet parking and a fleet of house cars handle guest transfers. The concierge division is consistently cited as among the most knowledgeable in the city for cultural and logistical requests.
