Peter Café Sport

Peter Café Sport is a legendary marina-front café-bar in Horta, on Faial island in the Azores, that has welcomed trans-Atlantic sailors since 1918 and become one of the most storied gathering spots for the yachting community anywhere in the mid-Atlantic. The kitchen keeps its menu straightforward -- an octopus salad and a tuna steak sandwich are the dishes most requested, alongside simple pub-style fare suited to sailors refuelling after an ocean crossing. The interior is dense with nautical memorabilia collected over more than a century, giving it a genuinely historic, museum-like character rather than a manufactured theme; the noise level is lively, especially in the evenings when gin and tonics flow and sailors swap stories, and there is no dress code whatsoever. The bar's gin selection is a notable draw, with a reputation for one of the more extensive gin lists in the region, well suited to the café's evening crowd. Mains run about EUR 12-22 (approx USD 13-24). No reservation is needed; it operates as a walk-in café-bar and is rarely turned away busy given its size and long operating hours.
