Algarve Weather & Climate Guide 2025
Plan your trip with detailed weather information and seasonal tips for Algarve.
The Algarve is Portugal's southernmost district, renowned for its dramatic golden limestone cliffs, over 150 pristine beaches, and more than 300 days of sunshine per year. Stretching 155 kilometres along the Atlantic coast, this sun-drenched region blends spectacular natural scenery with charming whitewashed villages, Moorish heritage, world-class golf, and a vibrant seafood cuisine.
Best Time to Visit
Best Months
May, June, September, October
Warm sunny weather (22–27°C), sea warm enough for swimming from June, significantly fewer crowds and lower prices than peak summer. September and October are particularly excellent: the ocean remains warm from summer, crowds have thinned and the countryside turns golden.
Months to Avoid
December, January, February
Short days, temperatures of 8–14°C, many beach restaurants and water-sport operators closed for the winter. The Algarve still sees significant rainfall November–January.
Climate Overview
The Algarve enjoys the warmest and sunniest climate in continental Europe, with over 300 sunny days per year. Summers are hot and dry (30°C+) with virtually no rainfall from June to September. Winters are mild by European standards (10–16°C) but wetter and windier, especially on the Atlantic-exposed west coast. The western Algarve around Sagres tends to be windier year-round due to its exposure to Atlantic trade winds.

Seasonal Breakdown
Detailed information for each season.
🌸 Spring
Mar–May
The Algarve's most beautiful season: wildflowers carpet the clifftops, almond and orange trees blossom, and temperatures rise from 15°C in March to 22°C in May. Minimal rain from April. Sea temperature still cool (16–19°C) but perfect for hiking.
☀️ Summer
Jun–Sep
Hot, sunny and dry with temperatures regularly reaching 30–35°C inland and 25–28°C on the coast. Sea temperatures reach 22–24°C by August. July and August are peak tourist season — beaches are busy and accommodation expensive. September brings relief with slightly cooler temperatures and thinner crowds.
🍂 Fall
Oct–Nov
October is an excellent month to visit — temperatures of 20–24°C, warm sea, golden light and much smaller crowds. November sees the first autumn rains and temperatures drop to 15–18°C. The eastern Algarve's rice fields turn golden in October.
❄️ Winter
Dec–Feb
Mild by northern European standards (10–16°C) but noticeably wet and windy compared to summer. The famous almond blossom begins in late January in the inland Algarve. Most beach-oriented businesses closed. Golf courses open year-round.
