Quatro Águas

Quatro Águas is a waterside seafood restaurant on the edge of Tavira, set directly on the banks of the Ria Formosa lagoon at the point where boats depart for Ilha de Tavira. The kitchen is known throughout the eastern Algarve for exceptionally fresh seafood, with amêijoas à bulhão pato (clams in garlic and coriander) and grilled sole among the standout orders, and its clams in particular are frequently cited as the best in the area. The outdoor terrace sits right beside the lagoon water, making it a favoured spot for long, unhurried lunches in the warmer months, with a relaxed, holiday-paced atmosphere and views across the wetlands toward the barrier island. The format is à la carte rather than a tasting menu, and portions are generous enough that sharing a few starters alongside a grilled fish main is a common approach. A modest wine list of regional whites is well suited to the seafood-forward menu. Given its location beside the ferry departure point for Ilha de Tavira, the restaurant gets particularly busy around midday in summer, so reservations or an early arrival are recommended for lunch on the terrace.
