Alentejo is Portugal's largest and least densely served region by public transport, so a rental car is strongly recommended for exploring beyond Évora. CP intercity trains link Lisbon to Évora and, via a combined train-and-bus service, to Beja. Rede Expressos coaches cover the main towns, but many rural villages, day-trip destinations, and Alentejo Litoral beaches have no rail service at all and only sparse or seasonal bus connections.
