Herdade do Esporão Wine & Food Tour

Herdade do Esporão, run directly by the estate since it opened its doors to visitors in the 1990s, is the flagship winery of the Reguengos de Monsaraz sub-region within the Alentejo DOC. The standard tour route covers roughly 1.5 kilometres on foot: a walk through the certified-organic vineyard rows and the surrounding cork-oak montado, followed by the Monte Velho fermentation hall, the barrel-lined Lagares ageing cellar, and the estate's own olive-oil mill, which presses several of the groves visible from the tasting terrace. The core visit includes four wines - two whites and two reds drawn from Esporão's Alicante Bouschet, Aragonês, and Antão Vaz plantings - poured by estate staff who explain the estate's organic and biodynamic practices. Guests who add the chef's tasting menu receive five courses built around whatever the kitchen garden and local suppliers have that week, plus bread, olive oil, and coffee; wine beyond the included flight and transport to the estate are not included. Groups are kept small, tours run in Portuguese and English, and the walking pace is unhurried enough for most fitness levels, though the vineyard paths are gravel and can be uneven after rain. Dietary substitutions for the chef's menu can be arranged with advance notice at booking.
