Planty is the green belt of parkland that encircles the Old Town of Krakow in Poland, created in the early nineteenth century on the site of the demolished medieval city walls and moat. Roughly four kilometres long, the park is divided into a string of small gardens with mature trees, benches, fountains and monuments, and it offers dependable seasonal photography close to the Main Market Square.

In autumn, particularly in mid-October, the chestnuts, lindens and maples turn gold and orange, and paths covered in fallen leaves lead toward landmarks such as the Barbican, St. Florian's Gate and the Wawel side of the park. Mid-morning light filters through the canopy and backlights the leaves, giving a glowing effect, while overcast days produce soft, saturated colours. April brings blossoms and fresh greens. The best frames use the long avenues of trees as leading lines, with a church spire or tower in the background. Low sun in early morning or late afternoon creates long shadows and rim light but also more contrast. Crowds are moderate, with local walkers, joggers and tourists, and the stretch near the Barbican and the Florian Gate is the busiest, so quieter sections on the western and southern sides are better for clean compositions. Tripods are generally tolerated for personal use as long as they do not block paths. The park is free and open at all hours, though evening lighting is limited. Drone flights are restricted in central Krakow. A standard 24-70mm zoom covers wide avenues and tighter details like leaves and benches, and a polariser can deepen foliage colour by reducing glare on wet leaves. Cafes and public toilets are found around the Old Town edge, a short walk from most sections.
