Highland resort at the foot of the Tatras.
Zakopane is a highland resort town at the foot of the Tatra Mountains, about 105 km south of Krakow. The Krupowki pedestrian street, wooden highlander architecture and the Gubalowka funicular are the main town highlights, while the cable car to Kasprowy Wierch gives access to high-mountain scenery. The drive takes about 2 hours each way, so it is best as a long day trip.
