Lima is Peru's vibrant capital and largest city, stretching along the Pacific coast where ancient civilizations once flourished.
Top 10 Photo Spots
The most photogenic locations in Lima.
Miraflores Malecรณn at Sunset
The clifftop walk along the Miraflores malecรณn offers some of Lima's most dramatic photography opportunities. The setting sun drops toward the Pacific while paragliders circle below - an almost impossibly cinematic scene. The clifftop has multiple formal viewpoints with unobstructed Pacific views.
Huaca Pucllana at Night
The 1,600-year-old adobe pyramid dramatically illuminated at night against the dark sky, with the glow of Miraflores skyscrapers visible behind, creates one of Lima's most surreal and striking visual contrasts - ancient and modern coexisting in a single frame.
Plaza Mayor at Golden Hour
Lima's main square surrounded by its colonial ensemble looks extraordinary in the warm golden light of morning or late afternoon. The cathedral's twin towers, the Government Palace facade, and the bronze fountain create a harmonious composition. At night, the beautifully lit buildings against the dark sky create an entirely different but equally stunning image.
Barranco Street Art and Colonial Facades
Barranco's streets are an open-air gallery of street art, colorful colonial facades, flowering bougainvillea, and crumbling romantic decay. The combination of world-class murals, peeling paintwork, and the dramatic descent down Bajada de los Baรฑos makes it one of Lima's richest photography neighborhoods. At any time of day, there's a compelling frame around every corner.
Puente de los Suspiros
The wooden Bridge of Sighs over the lush ravine (quebrada) is one of Lima's most photographed spots. The combination of the antique bridge, the tropical greenery of the ravine, colonial houses in the background, and glimpses of the Pacific beyond makes for layered, beautiful compositions.
Larco Museum Gardens and Galleries
The Larco Museum in a 1700s colonial mansion offers superb interior and exterior photography opportunities. The ornate building, the beautiful gardens with flowering plants, and the extraordinary collection (including striking ceramics and gold objects) all reward careful photography. Interior photography is permitted without flash.
Magic Water Circuit at Night
The 13 illuminated fountains of Lima's Magic Water Circuit create extraordinary long-exposure photography opportunities. The rainbow-colored water jets, the light shows choreographed to music, and the walk-through tunnel of water make for spectacular images after dark. Entry is cheap (PEN 5) and tripods are permitted.
San Francisco Convent Interior
The 17th-century Franciscan convent has a stunning Spanish-Moorish courtyard, an ornate baroque library, and the extraordinary catacombs below. Photography is permitted (without flash) throughout the guided tour, offering access to rarely seen colonial interiors.
Chorrillos Fish Market at Dawn
The early morning fish market at Chorrillos is one of Lima's most atmospheric photography scenes - fishing boats returning from sea, fishermen unloading their catch, pelicans and sea lions competing for scraps, and the first light of dawn over the Pacific. A genuine slice of traditional Lima life away from the tourist circuit.
El Olivar at Dawn
The ancient olive grove of San Isidro is particularly beautiful in the early morning light, with herons roosting in the gnarled 400-year-old trees. The juxtaposition of ancient trees, modern office towers, and wildlife creates unusual compositions. The misty winter mornings enhance the atmosphere significantly.
