No currency exchange needed β US dollars used directly. Avoid exchange booths at Tocumen Airport which charge high fees
ATMs
ATMs widely available in Panama City, Bocas del Toro, and major towns. HSBC, Banco Nacional, Banistmo, and Multibank have reliable ATMs. Remote areas like San Blas have NO ATMs β bring enough cash
Credit Cards
Visa and Mastercard accepted at most hotels, restaurants, and larger shops. American Express less widely accepted. Smaller fondas and street vendors prefer cash.
Tipping
10-15% in restaurants unless 'servicio incluido' already on bill. Porters $1-2 per bag. Tour guides $5-15/day. Taxis and Uber not required but rounding up appreciated.

- San Blas entry fee: $20 paid to Guna authorities at the coast β not included in day trip prices
- Panama Canal entry: $15-22 per person for visitor centers β often not included in 'Panama City tours'

- Domestic flight luggage: Air Panama small planes have strict 12-15 kg luggage limits with hefty excess baggage fees
