Desert Nights Camp sits within the Wahiba Sands — also known as Sharqiyah Sands — a vast sea of dunes covering roughly 10,000 square kilometres in the Ash Sharqiyah South region of eastern Oman. The camp is approximately 180 km south of Muscat, accessible by paved road to the desert edge at Al Wasil followed by a 4WD transfer across the sands. The journey from Muscat takes around two and a half hours by car.
Accommodation consists of Bedouin-style canvas tents mounted on raised wooden platforms, each fitted with private en-suite bathrooms, air conditioning units, and double or twin beds. The design balances a rustic aesthetic with practical comfort, providing electricity and modern plumbing while maintaining the desert atmosphere. Superior tents offer additional floor space and slightly upgraded furnishings. All tents are oriented to face the dune landscape rather than other structures, providing a sense of solitude.
The communal dining tent serves a set dinner of Omani and Arabic dishes — slow-cooked lamb, rice, salads, and fresh flatbread — followed by sweet Omani tea and dates around a campfire. A full buffet breakfast is included each morning. The camp does not serve alcohol.
Activities centre on the dune landscape: guided sandboarding on the high crests, camel rides at sunset, and 4WD dune bashing can be arranged through the camp. The location approximately 30 km from the nearest town produces near-total darkness after nightfall, making it one of the most accessible locations in Oman for naked-eye stargazing. Traditional Bedouin music and poetry performances are arranged on most evenings.
The camp is not accessible by public transport and suits travellers who have rented a 4WD vehicle, hired a guide, or booked an inclusive tour from Muscat. Most guests combine one or two nights here with a wider circuit of eastern Oman including Wadi Bani Khalid and the coastal city of Sur.

Tips for visiting
- Book at least one week ahead during the October–March high season; the camp fills quickly with tour groups.
- Bring warm layers for evenings — desert temperatures drop sharply after sunset, particularly from November through February.
- A 4WD vehicle is required to reach the camp from the paved road; standard saloon cars cannot make the crossing. Arrange a transfer through the camp if arriving independently.
- Charge all devices before arrival as charging points in individual tents may be limited during peak periods.
- The camp is best paired with a visit to Wadi Bani Khalid, approximately one hour's drive north, on either the arrival or departure day.
When to visit
October to March, when daytime temperatures are 25–30°C and evenings are cool. Avoid June to August when heat exceeds 45°C.

The tented terrain involves sand walking and wooden steps. The camp is not suitable for guests with significant mobility limitations.
