Anantara Al Jabal Al Akhdar Resort perches on the clifftops of Jabal Akhdar — the Green Mountain — at approximately 2,000 metres elevation in the Al Hajar range, roughly 130 kilometres from Muscat via the Al Dakhiliyah Governorate. The winding mountain road requires a 4WD vehicle; the resort provides shuttle transfers from the base military checkpoint for guests arriving in standard cars.

The architecture draws on ancient Omani fortified village traditions: pale stone walls, arched doorways, and terraced structures are designed to blend into the canyon landscape. The resort opened in 2014 and has become one of the most recognised luxury properties in the Arabian Peninsula, particularly for its canyon-edge infinity pool suspended over a 300-metre drop to the Al Hajar valley floor. The property has direct access to Diana's Point viewpoint, named for Princess Diana's visit to the site in 1986.

Accommodation ranges from cliff-hanging pool villas to garden rooms and two-bedroom presidential suites, each finished with local stone details and traditional Omani craft elements. All rooms include private terraces; higher categories feature private plunge pools over the canyon. The resort's organic estate gardens cultivate Jabal Akhdar's famous roses, pomegranates, and apricots, which supply the kitchen and the spa.

Dining spans Al Maisan restaurant for Omani and international cuisine, Bella Vista for Italian with canyon panoramas, and Al Qalaa for rooftop barbecue evenings. The Anantara Spa offers treatments rooted in traditional Arabian wellness, including rose-oil therapies using estate-harvested flowers. The spa also has an indoor heated pool, practical during winter months when clifftop temperatures drop below 10°C.

For active guests, the resort runs guided canyon hiking trails, mountain biking routes, rock climbing instruction, and stargazing programmes. The concierge team organises visits to local farming villages, traditional cooking classes, and rose-distilling demonstrations during the April–May harvest season. The terrain — exposed canyon edges and steep hiking paths — makes this a better fit for active couples and adventure travellers than for families with very young children.
