Britannia Hotel

Britannia Hotel has anchored the corner of Dronningens gate and Kongens gate in central Trondheim since 1897, making it one of Norway's longest-continuously-operating grand hotels. Following a meticulous five-year renovation completed in 2019, the building combines its Belle Époque architectural bones with contemporary interiors co-designed by Norwegian firm Snøhetta, known internationally for the Oslo Opera House. The hotel's 257 rooms and suites range from Classic rooms in the original wing — with their plasterwork ceilings and tall sash windows — to Design Suites with bespoke furnishings and panoramic views over Nidaros Cathedral and the Nidelva river. The Palm Court, a soaring glass-roofed atrium filled with tropical plants, functions as the social hub of the hotel, serving afternoon tea, champagne breakfasts, and cocktails throughout the day and evening. Speilsalen, the hotel's signature restaurant, holds a Michelin star and offers a seasonal tasting menu built on Norwegian produce interpreted through modern Nordic technique; the wine list is extensive and the sommelier team is one of the strongest in the country. The Palmehaven Bar is known for its historical Norwegian aquavit selection and rare whisky collection. Britannia Spa spans two floors and includes marble Roman baths with heated pools of varying temperatures, a hammam, sauna, and a comprehensive treatment menu. A separate fitness suite and a 25-metre indoor swimming pool complete the wellness facilities. The hotel's location places it five minutes on foot from Nidaros Cathedral, Norway's foremost Gothic monument, and 10 minutes from the Bakklandet historic quarter.
