Anker Hostel

Anker Hostel occupies a substantial building on Storgata in Oslo's Grünerløkka district, roughly 1.5 kilometres northeast of Oslo Central Station and approximately 20 minutes on foot from the city centre. Grünerløkka is Oslo's creative and bohemian quarter — the surrounding blocks are dense with independent coffee shops, vintage clothing stores, record shops, craft-beer bars, and an internationally regarded specialty coffee scene. The Akerselva river runs one block west, with a riverside walking and cycling path connecting the neighbourhood north to the Botanical Garden and south toward Grønland. Anker Hostel offers a mix of dormitory beds in 4-, 6-, and 8-bed rooms alongside private rooms with en-suite bathrooms, making it suitable for solo backpackers as well as couples or small groups seeking value. All bedding and towels are provided; individual lockers are available in dormitory rooms. Common spaces include a large fully-equipped guest kitchen, a spacious lounge with sofas and a TV area, and a summer rooftop terrace. A 24-hour staffed reception distinguishes Anker from most self-service competitors. The hostel has a social atmosphere without being party-focused, and the summer rooftop draws travellers comparing notes on Norwegian fjord routes and Scandinavian rail itineraries. There is no in-house restaurant, but Grünerløkka's concentration of affordable cafés, bakeries, and evening restaurants makes independent eating easy and relatively inexpensive by Oslo standards. The tram line on Thorvald Meyers gate, three minutes' walk away, connects to Oslo Central Station in about 12 minutes.
