Its smaller guest count means fewer simultaneous coach groups sharing facilities, which produces a notably quieter dining and common-area experience than at the flagship properties. A renovation carried out in the 2010s brought the interior noticeably closer to a contemporary mid-to-upper standard: laminate flooring in corridors, updated bathroom fittings, flat-screen televisions with DPRK domestic channels, and improved lighting throughout. Rooms are compact but well maintained, available in twin or double configurations, each with a private bathroom. Front-facing rooms overlook a tree-lined Pyongyang side street and receive better natural light; rear rooms trade the outlook for additional quiet. The hotel restaurant provides Korean and Chinese dishes across three sittings daily. The kitchen's output is considered reliable by operators who book the property regularly, with a reasonable degree of flexibility for dietary requirements notified through guides. A small bar adjacent to the lobby serves Taedonggang draught beer, house spirits, and soft drinks in the evenings; its compact size contributes to an informal social atmosphere. No pool or spa is available. A basic exercise space with limited equipment is located on one of the upper floors. The Sosan suits travellers who prefer avoiding the scale and institutional character of Pyongyang's mega-hotels while remaining within easy reach of the city's central sights.
