Hôtel du Centre is one of the lowest-priced places to sleep in Niamey, positioned immediately adjacent to the Grand Marché in the commercial heart of the city. The building is a concrete block structure with a narrow staircase leading to rooms on upper floors. Each room contains a metal-frame bed with a thin mattress, a ceiling fan, and a small window with a louvred shutter; there is no air conditioning and no private bathroom. Shared squat-toilet facilities occupy the corridor landing, with a separate bucket-shower area; water supply is usually available but can become intermittent during dry-season afternoons when municipal pressure drops. The room rate is the overriding reason to stay here — it is among the lowest of any formal accommodation in the capital, making it a last-resort option for travellers who have spent their accommodation budget and need a secure roof before an early-morning bus departure. The location justifies its existence: the Wadata intercity bus station is reachable by a short shared taxi from just outside the market, a dozen street-stall eateries selling rice, beans, and stew are within 50 metres, and the Grand Marché itself is immediately outside the front entrance. Noise is constant and starts early — traders set up before dawn and sounds from the street penetrate the building's uninsulated concrete walls throughout the night. Guests are advised to use the room padlock, store cash and documents in a money belt, and treat the space purely as a sleep stop rather than a comfortable base. For any stay longer than a night or two, even modestly priced alternatives in Niamey offer a meaningfully better experience.
