QO Amsterdam

QO Amsterdam stands on Amstelhavenweg 2H in the Amsterdam South district, adjacent to the IJ waterfront and approximately two kilometres south of the RAI Amsterdam convention centre. The hotel is positioned in the IJburg development corridor, with waterfront views across the Amsterdam IJ harbour. The nearest tram and metro connections are at RAI station (metro line 52 and tram 4), approximately a ten-minute walk, providing a direct link to Amsterdam Centraal in twenty minutes. QO Amsterdam opened in 2018 and was designed from the ground up as a showcase for sustainable hospitality. The building was engineered to near-zero energy performance, achieving high scores under Dutch sustainability rating frameworks. The exterior is clad in a living facade of vegetation and solar-integrated panels. Inside, smart building management systems regulate temperature, lighting, and energy use at a per-room level, with guests able to interact with room conditions via a dedicated mobile application or in-room tablet. The architectural form is a modern tower with a glazed profile; the rooftop greenhouse is visible from the approach and has become a visual landmark in this part of the waterfront.

The hotel offers 288 rooms and suites across multiple floor types, from standard QO Rooms to Terrace Rooms and penthouse-level suites. Rooms are generously proportioned by urban hotel standards, with large windows, concrete and wood natural-material finishes, and an emphasis on acoustic comfort. The smart-room system allows individual temperature control down to the degree, blackout blinds operable by app, and custom lighting scenes. Beds are large-format with natural latex mattresses. Upper-floor rooms and suites have views across the IJ waterfront and on clear days north across the city.

The rooftop greenhouse restaurant is the hotel's most distinctive food offering — it serves seasonal produce grown in the greenhouse itself, supplemented by ingredients from local urban farms and Dutch suppliers. The menu follows a plant-forward philosophy without being exclusively vegetarian, and the restaurant is open to both hotel guests and the public. The IZAKAYA restaurant on a lower floor serves an Asian-fusion menu in a more conventional but smartly designed setting. The hotel bar runs a cocktail programme with a focus on low-waste spirits and locally made distillates.

A spa and wellness centre occupies a dedicated floor and includes a pool, sauna, steam room, and treatment rooms. The fitness centre offers Technogym equipment and fitness classes. Bicycle rental, electric vehicle charging, and a waterfront terrace complete the guest amenity offer. The hotel operates a shuttle service to RAI Amsterdam for guests attending conventions.

QO Amsterdam primarily attracts corporate travellers attending RAI convention events, sustainability-conscious leisure travellers, and city visitors seeking a contemporary waterfront environment at mid-range pricing. Its location outside the historic centre is a trade-off against the quieter, less tourist-dense waterfront setting and the larger-than-average room sizes.
