Hotel Encounter Nepal is a mid-range property in the western section of Thamel, Kathmandu, roughly 300 metres from Thamel Chowk and a 25-minute walk from the old Hanuman Dhoka Durbar Square. The hotel opened in the mid-2000s and has built a steady following among solo trekkers and small tour groups for consistent room standards and attentive front-desk staff in a neighbourhood where turnover among budget and mid-range operators is high.

The building spans six floors with 40 rooms across Standard, Superior, and Deluxe categories. Standard rooms on lower floors have limited natural light; Superior and Deluxe rooms from the third floor upward have usable daylight and partial views over Thamel's rooftop landscape. All rooms have en-suite bathrooms with hot water, air conditioning, flat-screen television, and fast wifi. Furniture is functional and relatively recently refurbished.

The sixth-floor rooftop restaurant is the property's standout amenity, with open-air seating and views over the city; it serves Nepali, Indian, and continental dishes and draws walk-in diners from the surrounding lanes as well as hotel guests. A separate ground-floor restaurant handles breakfast — included in most room rates — and provides room service. The travel desk arranges airport transfers, guides for Kathmandu's heritage circuit, and multiday trek itineraries through licensed partner operators. Same-day laundry service is available on weekdays. The hotel has no pool or spa. Reception is staffed 24 hours and holds luggage for late departures or early arrivals — a practical benefit for trekkers returning from the mountains.
