Fish Tail Lodge

Fish Tail Lodge sits on a private wooded peninsula in Phewa Lake, Pokhara, accessible only by a hand-operated rope-pulley raft that crosses a narrow channel from the Lakeside promenade. The crossing takes under two minutes but marks a decisive shift in atmosphere from the busy restaurant strip on the eastern shore. The property has operated since the 1960s and is among the oldest heritage hotels in Nepal, originally established in partnership with the royal household. Traditional Newari-influenced architecture — steeply pitched roofs, carved woodwork, and whitewashed walls — blends with a mature garden of flame trees and bougainvillea that screens the water's edge.

The lodge offers 46 rooms and 4 suites, divided into Garden and Lakeside categories. Lakeside rooms have private verandas looking directly across Phewa Lake toward the Annapurna range; on clear mornings the reflection of Machapuchare (Fishtail Mountain), from which the lodge takes its name, is visible in the still water. Rooms feature local stone flooring, hand-woven textiles, and teak furniture. Air conditioning and wifi are available throughout the property.

Dining takes place in the open-sided lakeside restaurant, serving continental and Nepali dishes alongside fresh lake fish. A pool bar handles drinks and light meals through the afternoon. There is no spa facility, but the grounds themselves — garden paths, resident birdlife, and lake views — provide the primary sense of retreat. Canoeing and rowing are available directly from the hotel's landing jetty. The concierge arranges paragliding bookings, Annapurna foothills day walks, and Sarangkot sunrise drives.
