Chaukhtatgyi Pagoda, in Bahan Township in northern Yangon, Myanmar, houses a reclining Buddha about 65 metres long inside a vast corrugated-iron shed. The frame is a long interior perspective: the serene face and glass eyes in the foreground, the soles of the feet inlaid with the 108 auspicious symbols at the far end, and monks and worshippers moving along the sides.

The long hall frames the 65-metre reclining Buddha, with soft interior light and monks at prayer.

The hall's open sides let in soft, diffused daylight, and the best time is in the morning from about 07:00 to 10:00, when light is gentle, the temperature is cooler and the hall is quieter. Midday is bright and hot, and the interior contrast can be harsh near the openings. The pagoda can be photographed year-round, though the dry season from November to February is the most comfortable; in the monsoon, rain on the roof is loud but interior light is even and moody. Crowds are modest outside holy days and weekends, and the main viewpoints are at the head, along the central walkway and at the feet. Shoes and socks must be removed at the entrance, and shoulders and knees should be covered. Entry is generally free or by a small donation for visitors, and a separate monastery nearby has its own access arrangements. Tripods are usually tolerated in quiet moments but may be discouraged near worshippers, so a compact tripod or a stable ledge is practical. Drones are not appropriate and are restricted in Yangon. Flash should not be used, as it disturbs worshippers and flattens the interior. A wide lens is needed for the whole Buddha, and a short telephoto isolates the face, hands and feet. Restrooms and drinking water are available near the entrance.
