Souk des Bijoutiers (Jewelers Souk)

Tucked into the alleys near Rahba Kedima, the Souk des Bijoutiers is Marrakech's traditional jewelers' quarter, where small stalls and workshop-fronts display trays of Berber silver jewelry ranging from bold tribal cuffs and chunky rings to fine filigree earrings set with amber or coral. Many pieces draw on Amazigh (Berber) design traditions from the Atlas Mountains and southern oases, where silver jewelry historically doubled as a portable form of savings and dowry wealth. Stalls sell both genuinely old pieces, sourced from rural families or estate sales, and new reproductions made by resident silversmiths using traditional techniques; it is worth asking directly whether a piece is antique or new; and the age materially affects price. Silver is generally priced with reference to weight as well as craftsmanship, so asking a vendor to weigh a piece on the spot is a normal and expected part of the negotiation. Because pricing varies significantly by vendor and piece quality, comparing several stalls before committing to a larger purchase is worthwhile.
