Villa Maroc Essaouira

Villa Maroc Essaouira occupies two joined traditional houses on Rue Abdellah Ben Yassine, inside the Medina walls and a short walk from the fishing port, the Skala ramparts, and the main square, making it a fully walkable base for exploring the old town. Opened in the 1980s, it is regarded as one of the first riad-style hotels to open in Morocco and retains an early, understated version of that format: rooms are arranged around two whitewashed, plant-filled courtyards rather than a single grand atrium, with narrow stairways and low doorways typical of the original merchant houses. Standard and Superior rooms are compact and simply furnished with traditional Moroccan textiles, tadelakt walls, and some fireplaces for cooler coastal evenings, while the Suite adds a private sitting area. There is no full restaurant, but breakfast is served on the rooftop terrace overlooking the harbour and Atlantic ramparts, and the lounge doubles as an evening gathering space. The hotel has no pool or gym, but a hammam is available nearby in the Medina, and its lack of resort facilities is offset by proximity to Essaouira's beach, port restaurants, and artisan souks. Service is personal and low-key, run more like a well-established guesthouse than a hotel, with staff providing local recommendations rather than a full concierge desk, suiting independent travellers over those seeking spa or pool amenities.
