Homún Cenote Cave Diving and Snorkeling Circuit

Homún, a small town in the Mexican state of Yucatán, sits above more than twenty cenotes within a small radius, making it one of the densest cenote clusters on the peninsula. The circuit splits into two distinct tiers: a multi-cenote snorkeling day aimed at casual visitors with no prior experience, and technical cave-diving routes reserved for divers holding full cave or advanced open-water certification. The snorkeling circuit requires only basic swimming ability and is family-friendly, with masks rentable on site and cooperative guides moving small groups between three or four connected cenotes by tuk-tuk or truck. The cave-diving side is operated by separate dive cooperatives staffed by trained dive guides, who verify certification cards before any dive and provide a route-specific safety briefing covering exit points, air-management turnarounds, and the halocline layers found in several of the flooded passages beneath the surrounding ranchland; divers bring or rent full cave-diving gear, since this is not an entry-level activity. Snorkelers need only a swimsuit and rented mask. Both tiers operate year-round, since the cenotes are naturally temperature-stable underground, though the dry season from roughly November to April gives divers the clearest visibility in the flooded passages, while heavier rains in other months can reduce clarity at some sites. Because Homún's cenotes are spread across ranchland with unpaved access roads, arranging transport through a local cooperative rather than self-driving between sites is the practical approach for both snorkelers and divers.
