It begins with the café lechero ritual at Gran Café de la Parroquia or Gran Café del Portal, both long-running institutions on or near the Zócalo, then continues to El Cochinito de Oro for a pambazo and torta tasting. From there the walk shifts to the Malecón, the waterfront promenade, for grilled shrimp and seafood cocktails from cart vendors, and finishes back at the Zócalo in the evening with botanas and live danzón music at a cantina. Across the roughly three-hour route the balance is mostly savory, with the café lechero serving as the closest thing to a sweet or drink-based break between the heavier stops.
