It begins with breakfast picadas and coffee near Mercado Jáuregui, continues into the market itself for fruit, bionicos and roasted coffee beans, moves to a Centro fonda for a lunch of mole xiqueño or chilpachole de jaiba (crab soup), and finishes with an afternoon coffee break at a cafe serving Coatepec-grown beans. Across the roughly two-and-a-half to three-hour route the balance mixes savory breakfast and lunch stops with lighter, sweeter touches from the bionicos and coffee breaks. Because the walk is self-guided, there is no package price; total food spending typically runs MX$200-400 per person, and travelers move between stops on foot within Xalapa's compact Centro district.
