A late-morning arrival suits the dune tours, which run through the warmer midday period; weekday visits are notably quieter than weekends, when the ATV traffic on the dunes picks up considerably. After the dune activities, the low-key beach village offers simple seafood palapas serving fried fish and shrimp along the sand for lunch, with the swimming beach itself calmer and more suited to relaxing than serious ocean swimming given its Gulf-facing exposure. Organized ATV and dune-buggy tours departing directly from Veracruz port hotels are available for those without a rental car, bundling transport with the dune activity itself. March through August brings calmer surf and warmer, more comfortable weather for the beach portion of the visit, while weekday timing regardless of season keeps the dunes less congested with tour groups.
