Laguna de la Media Luna

Laguna de la Media Luna is a crescent-shaped spring-fed lagoon near Rioverde, San Luis Potosí, known for exceptional underwater clarity fed by natural springs on its floor. The strongest above-water frame is from the wooden dock at the lagoon's edge, capturing the crescent shoreline and reeds reflected in the glassy surface; below the surface, the spring vents and sunken cypress trunks make striking subjects for snorkel-level shots. Direct overhead light in mid-morning to early afternoon penetrates the clear water and best reveals the underwater visibility, while low-angle morning or evening light works better for the reflective surface shots from the dock. The lagoon is swimmable and photogenic year-round, though the driest winter months typically bring the clearest water since less runoff reaches the springs. Weekends and school holidays bring the largest crowds of swimmers, so weekday mornings offer calmer water and fewer people in the frame. There is an entrance fee at the site, and an underwater housing is needed for the spring-vent shots since the site does not have designated no-swim photography zones; drones are not permitted over the lagoon.
