Cascadas de Tamasopo

Cascadas de Tamasopo is a series of wide, tiered waterfalls on the Río Tamasopo, surrounded by tropical vegetation and ranking among the most visited natural sites in the Huasteca Potosina. Visitors walk paths along the riverbank to reach several distinct swimming pools at different levels, each fed by its own cascade, with rope swings and a small zip line adding activity for those who want more than swimming. Riverside restaurants and palapas provide shade and food throughout the day, making it easy to turn a swimming stop into a longer outing. A typical visit runs 2 to 4 hours, enough time to move between the different tiers and pools and take a break to eat riverside. The upper falls offer the widest view of the tiered cascades together, best photographed from the opposite bank in the morning when the water is calmer and less crowded with swimmers. Weekday mornings are noticeably quieter than weekends and holiday periods, when the site draws large numbers of visitors from Ciudad Valles and beyond; booking an online reservation is worth doing in high season to guarantee entry. The combination of easy river access, food service and activities makes this one of the more developed and family-friendly Huasteca swimming spots.
