Punta Allen Beach

Punta Allen sits at the southern tip of the Sian Ka'an Biosphere Reserve, roughly 60 kilometers from Tulum in Quintana Roo, and is one of the most isolated beaches accessible from the main Riviera Maya tourist circuit. The beach is a narrow spit of pale sand bordered on one side by the open Caribbean and on the other by the Sian Ka'an lagoon system, giving the small fishing village a wild, in-between setting. The water is exceptionally clear and largely undisturbed by development, with little to no beach infrastructure beyond what the village itself provides. There are no beach clubs, sunbed rentals, or organized amenities; a handful of small guesthouses and simple lodging options serve overnight visitors, and food options are limited to a few local restaurants that depend on the day's catch. The beach is open and exposed rather than a sheltered cove, and wind can pick up significantly in the afternoon, which locals and fishing guides use to their advantage for sport fishing trips into the surrounding flats. Reaching Punta Allen typically requires a rough two-hour drive along an unpaved road from Tulum, or a boat tour arranged from Boca Paila, since there is no paved highway connection. The surrounding reserve is a protected biosphere, so visitors should expect minimal signage, no large-scale tourist services, and a genuine sense of remoteness rare elsewhere on the Quintana Roo coast.
