Xel-Há Park

Xel-Há is built around a natural inlet where a freshwater river meets the Caribbean, creating a network of calm channels, coves, and cenote springs that visitors explore by snorkel rather than swimming pool. Mangrove-lined channels lead from the main lagoon toward the inlet's mouth, where the water gradually shifts from fresh to brackish to saltwater, each section supporting a different mix of tropical fish. Cliff platforms along the inlet's edge let visitors jump from several heights into the deeper pools, while a network of jungle trails connects lookout towers, a small cenote, and a rope swing area. Because the all-inclusive ticket covers food, drinks, snorkel gear, and locker rental, a full day is the standard visit length, with most guests arriving at opening to snorkel the calmest, clearest stretch of the inlet before midday crowds and boat traffic stir up sediment. The clearest water and best underwater visibility come in the first two hours after the 8AM opening; by early afternoon, especially on weekends, snorkeler numbers in the main channel increase noticeably. The cliff-jump platforms are also least crowded in the morning. Because only reef-safe sunscreen is permitted anywhere in the park, and regular sunscreen is confiscated at entry, visitors should apply reef-safe products before arriving. Lockers and showers are available throughout, and the park's all-inclusive structure means no additional payment is needed once inside.
