Barranca de Aguacatitla Rim Trail

The rim trail above the Barranca de Aguacatitla is reached by taxi from Zacatlán town center in about 10 minutes. The 3 km round-trip path follows the canyon's edge with about 150 m of gain and loss across several overlooks, taking roughly 1.5 hours at a relaxed pace. The surface is packed dirt with occasional rock, generally even but with sections that run close to unfenced drop-offs along the rim, so caution is needed near the edge. There is minimal shade, as the trail runs along open pastureland bordering the canyon. Landmarks include a series of overlook points offering views down into the barranca and across to the opposite canyon wall; the farthest overlook serves as the natural turnaround for most visitors. There are no refuge huts or water sources along the route, so hikers should carry their own water and watch footing carefully near the unfenced sections.
