Afternoons can extend to the Bellas Artes palace a short walk northwest, or, for visitors prioritizing museums, the Anthropology Museum in Chapultepec, though reaching Chapultepec adds meaningful metro or taxi time and is best reserved for travelers less focused on the historic center. Countless fondas and market stalls around the Zócalo serve tacos, tortas, and other central Mexican staples for a midday meal, and the areas around Templo Mayor have numerous sit-down options as well. Mexico City is a year-round day trip, though weekday visits avoid the heavier bus traffic and museum crowds of weekends; because the return bus corridor runs frequently into the evening, there is some flexibility in departure time, but travelers should still budget the return journey carefully to avoid an unexpectedly late arrival back in Puebla.
