Paseo Santa Lucía

Paseo Santa Lucía is a 2.5-kilometer engineered river channel that links the Macroplaza in downtown Monterrey to Parque Fundidora, built in the early 2000s as part of the city's push to reclaim its industrial waterfront for public use. A paved walkway runs alongside the channel past landscaped gardens, fountains, waterfalls, and sculpture, with small boats ferrying passengers along the water for most of the route. Walking the full length takes about an hour at an easy pace, while riding the boat one-way and walking back is a popular way to see the channel from both perspectives; combined with a stop at Parque Fundidora, the outing fills an afternoon or evening. The riverwalk is illuminated at night, when fountains along the route are lit and the walkway becomes one of the most active public spaces in the city, drawing families, joggers, and couples. Mornings are quieter and cooler, useful for photography of the reflections in the channel before the midday sun is highest overhead. The best vantage points are near the mid-point plazas where the channel widens beside cascading fountains, and from the footbridges that cross the water at several points along the route. Weekend evenings and local holidays bring the heaviest foot traffic, with queues forming for the boat rides; weekday mornings or early afternoons are the least crowded times to walk the full length.
