La Cava Tepic

La Cava Tepic is a wine and mezcal bar on Amado Nervo street in the center of Tepic, Nayarit's inland state capital. Unlike the coastal beach bars of Sayulita or Bucerías, La Cava draws a distinctly urban, professional crowd -- Tepic's young working population in their late twenties through forties -- with a smart-casual dress code and an atmosphere geared toward conversation and tasting rather than dancing. The setting favors a warmer, more intimate indoor bar layout typical of inland Mexican cities.

Music is kept deliberately low-key: a curated background playlist of jazz, bossa nova, and acoustic Latin selections supports conversation rather than driving the room. The drinks programme is the bar's centerpiece, built around a curated wine list (Mexican and imported labels) alongside an extensive mezcal selection featuring small-batch and regional producers, often served with tasting flights; cocktails built on these bases are also available, priced in the mid-range ($$) for Tepic.

La Cava operates Tuesday through Saturday, 6PM to 1AM, and is closed Sunday and Monday. The bar is busiest from around 8PM to 11PM, when Tepic's professional crowd arrives after dinner for wine or mezcal tastings; Friday and Saturday nights draw the largest turnout. There is no cover charge. Reservations are recommended for groups on weekend nights given the venue's more intimate seating, though walk-ins are accommodated when space allows. There is no formal bottle-service program -- drinks and tastings are ordered by the glass or flight.
