La Contaduría Hill Trail (San Blas)

The La Contaduría Hill Trail starts within walking distance of downtown San Blas, Nayarit, at the base of Cerro de la Contaduría, so no vehicle or parking is required and no permit is needed to hike it. The short out-and-back route covers about 2 km round trip with 80 m of elevation gain, an easy climb that takes most visitors around an hour including time at the top. The path follows a paved and stone-stepped route up the hillside, passing the ruins of the 16th-century Templo y Ex-Convento de San Blas and remnants of a colonial-era fort along the way, both of which offer natural rest stops and photo opportunities. The final stretch to the summit is more exposed, with little shade, opening onto views over the town of San Blas, the surrounding estuaries, and the Pacific Ocean beyond. The hilltop is the trail's turn-around point and one of the best spots in San Blas to watch the sunset, when the colonial ruins are lit in warm evening light. There is no water source, refuge hut, or shelter along the route, so visitors should bring their own water despite the short distance, particularly if hiking in the afternoon heat. Because of its short length and historical landmarks, the trail suits casual walkers as well as history-minded visitors exploring San Blas.
