The Tepoztlan Plaza de Armas market stalls ring the town's central plaza daily, forming the main source of pre-Hispanic snacks and antojitos for both residents and visitors. Itacates, quesadillas de flor de calabaza and, in season, chapulines and jumiles are the most distinctive orders, alongside Tepoznieves ice cream stands and dulces tipicos vendors selling traditional Mexican sweets. Seating is informal, on stools at individual stalls or standing while eating, with the lively, crowded atmosphere of an open-air plaza market rather than a conventional restaurant; the stalls are busiest, and best, on Saturday and Sunday mornings. There is no wine or bar program, with drinks limited to aguas frescas and Tepoznieves' fruit-based ice creams. As street stalls, reservations do not apply, and visitors simply move between vendors sampling different dishes.
