El Veladero National Park Bay Overlook Trail

The trail begins at the marked El Veladero National Park entrance near Las Brisas, above Acapulco's Costera hotel zone, and is reached by taxi or private vehicle since no public transit runs directly to the trailhead; there is informal parking near the entrance and no permit is required for day hiking on the main trail network. From the entrance, the path climbs about 350 metres cumulatively over a 5-kilometre round trip, following a packed-dirt trail through tropical dry forest with occasional rocky sections underfoot but no technical scrambling. Shade is intermittent, dense where the forest canopy is intact and sparse near the exposed ridge overlooks, so sun exposure increases in the upper third of the hike. Landmarks include several signed junctions within the park's marked network and, after the steepest pitch, an open ridge overlook that serves as the natural turn-around point, with clear views over Acapulco Bay's curve of hotels and coastline. No potable water sources or refuge huts exist along the trail, so hikers carry their own supply. The route stays within the park's well-visited, tourist-adjacent section, and rangers or other hikers are commonly present, which reduces the isolation typical of more remote park trails.
