Museo de las Momias (Mummy Museum) Plaza

The plaza in front of the Museo de las Momias sits on a hillside above the Panteón Municipal on the western edge of Guanajuato City's historic centre, and the classic frame is the museum's angled entrance facade and signage with the terraced cemetery and city rooftops falling away in the background. The plaza faces roughly east, so the facade catches direct, even light through mid-morning before the sun swings overhead and flattens the colour by early afternoon; overcast mornings soften the light further and reduce glare off the museum's white paint. The site is busy year-round, since it is one of Guanajuato's best-known attractions, with tour buses and school groups arriving from mid-morning through early afternoon; the plaza and queue thin out considerably in the first hour after opening and again in the late afternoon. A tripod can be used on the open plaza without issue, though photography is not permitted inside the museum galleries themselves, so equipment should stay outside. There is no charge to photograph the plaza and exterior, but entering the museum requires a separate admission ticket. Drones are not permitted given the site's proximity to the cemetery and the historic centre's restricted airspace.
