Harness, helmet, and rope are provided and set up by the guide; participants should bring closed-toe shoes with grip, quick-dry clothing since spray from the falls soaks the rappel line, and a change of clothes for afterward. Guides operating within the Sierra Gorda de Guanajuato Biosphere Reserve visitor programme are trained in the reserve's safety protocols and typically hold wilderness first-aid or equivalent certification, since the site is a protected natural area with limited vehicle access for emergency response. Before the descent, guides deliver a safety briefing on rope handling, foot placement on the wet rock, and the belay backup system used to control the pace of descent, along with the evacuation plan for the 1.5km walk back to the parking area if a participant is injured. The best season runs October to May, when water flow over the falls is moderate rather than the high-volume flow of the June-September rainy season, and approach trails are dry rather than slick with mud.
