Casa Madero Vineyard Walk

The Casa Madero Vineyard Walk covers the vine blocks of Casa Madero, the oldest operating winery in the Americas, founded in 1597 in the Parras Valley of Coahuila. The estate is located at Hacienda San Lorenzo, reached by private vehicle or taxi from Parras town center via Highway 102, a drive of about 20 minutes; visitor parking is available on the estate grounds. The walking loop is about 3 kilometers and essentially flat, with under 20 meters of elevation change, making it accessible to nearly all visitors regardless of fitness level. The surface is a mix of packed gravel estate roads and dirt paths between the vine rows, with minimal exposure to difficult terrain. Shade is limited within the vineyard itself, though the historic buildings along the route offer some relief from the sun. Landmarks along the walk include the estate's historic cellar, the old wine press building dating to the colonial era, and the vine blocks themselves, which change character through the growing season. Most visitors combine the walk with a guided cellar tour, which extends the visit beyond the roughly 1 to 1.5 hours needed for the walking loop alone. Because the walk is a loop on estate grounds, there is no fixed turnaround point; visitors can shorten or extend the route depending on time. There are no natural water sources along the route, though the estate's visitor center and tasting room, near the start and end of the loop, offer food and drink. Early morning walks are cooler and quieter, before the estate's midday visitor traffic picks up, particularly during the August to October harvest season when the vineyard is busiest.
