Kayaking and Paddleboarding at Las Playitas

Las Playitas is a shallow, spring-fed lagoon within the Cuatro Cienegas Natural Protected Area in Coahuila, with clear turquoise water suited to relaxed kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding rather than whitewater or open-water paddling. The paddling area covers roughly 2-3km across the open lagoon, and sessions typically run 1-2 hours as a rental or a light guided paddle; no prior paddling experience is required, and the shallow, calm conditions make it approachable for beginners and families. Kayaks, paddleboards, paddles and life jackets are provided by the reserve concessions that operate rental stands at the site, which also enforce protected-area rules given the lagoon's fragile endemic ecosystem, home to species found nowhere else on Earth. A brief safety and conservation orientation precedes rental, covering staying within marked paddling zones to avoid disturbing the gypsum dune and pool systems nearby, and reserve staff are present at the launch point during operating hours in case of difficulty on the water. Water levels are fullest from March to November, giving the best paddling depth and clarity, while the reserve remains accessible year-round; visitors should bring sun protection given the exposed, shade-free lagoon setting.
