Misol-Ha Behind-the-Falls Walkway

A single 35 m curtain of water drops into a circular pool, and a cut ledge lets visitors walk directly behind the fall into a dripping cave; the signature shot is backlit, taken from inside the ledge looking out through the sheeting water toward the pool and forest beyond, with the cave mouth's dark rock framing the bright curtain. The pool faces roughly east-southeast, so direct sun reaches it from mid-morning, which builds harsh contrast between the lit spray and the dark cave interior; arriving between 08:00 and 10:00, before the sun is fully on the pool, keeps that contrast manageable. Flow is heaviest October to January and clearest February to May, but the site is worth visiting year round. Spray on the ledge behind the falls is constant regardless of season, so protecting gear matters more than filters here; the ledge surface is wet and mildly slick, and the walkway can feel congested when a tour group is on it at the same time, though there is no formal queue system. Tripod use is permitted but awkward on the narrow, wet ledge; a handheld approach with a fast lens works better in the low cave light. The ejido opens the site daily 08:00 to 17:00 and charges about 30 MXN (approx USD 2) for entry, with roughly 10 MXN (approx USD 0.60) extra for access to the walkway behind the fall; there is no card terminal or ATM on site.
