Xtabay

Xtabay is one of the busiest bars on Calle 59 in Campeche's Centro Histórico, named for the Maya forest spirit, and draws a young, energetic crowd in their twenties and thirties dressed casually, with tables spilling out onto the pedestrian street once the evening gets going. The atmosphere is loud and social rather than intimate, built around live bands and DJ sets that turn the room into a standing, mingling crowd by mid-evening. Music runs to live tropical and pop-rock bands on Friday and Saturday nights, with DJ sets filling the earlier or quieter slots, giving the venue a programmed, weekend-forward music policy. The drinks list favours beer and straightforward cocktails over elaborate mixology, priced for a young crowd running multiple rounds through the night. Hours run Wednesday through Sunday, 6PM to 2AM, with Wednesday and Thursday markedly quieter than the Friday-Saturday peak, when the street-side tables and standing room fill fastest. Most nights carry no cover, but weekend nights with a booked live act add a modest MXN 50-100 charge at the door; there is no bottle-service programme and no reservation system, so weekend arrivals should expect to compete for tables once bands start.
