Hotel Tucan Siho-Playa stands at kilometre 35 of the old free road between Campeche city and Champoton, on the coast at Sihoplaya in Campeche state, Mexico, roughly forty minutes south of the state capital by car. The hotel grew around a nineteenth-century hacienda whose main house and chapel-like outbuildings still anchor the site, and the result is a rambling property of arcades, lawns, and later accommodation blocks running down to the Gulf of Mexico, with a pier extending over the shallow water. Two swimming pools, extensive gardens planted with palms and flowering trees, a restaurant serving Campechano seafood and buffet meals, and a bar make up the core facilities, and there is ample free parking. Accommodation is spread across Standard Rooms, Sea View Rooms, bungalows in the grounds, and Family Suites, all air conditioned, with the older hacienda-side rooms carrying more character and the newer blocks offering more consistent fittings. The coastline here is not a resort beach in the Caribbean sense: the Gulf water is calm and shallow, the shore is a mix of sand and rock, and swimming is more comfortable from the pier and the pools than from the shoreline itself. What the location does provide is a genuinely coastal stop within easy reach of Campeche's walled city, the Edzna archaeological site inland, and the fishing town of Champoton fifteen minutes further south, along with sunsets over open water. The hotel is popular with Mexican families at weekends and during school holidays, when the pools and gardens are busy and the atmosphere is lively; midweek it is markedly quieter. Rates generally run between MXN 1,300 and MXN 2,200 per night, which makes it a practical break in the drive between Campeche and Ciudad del Carmen or Villahermosa, and one of the few places in the state where a stay is organised around the water rather than around colonial architecture.
