La Bufadora blowhole

La Bufadora, a marine geyser on the Punta Banda peninsula south of Ensenada, fires seawater up to 30 meters into the air from a sea cave at the base of a cliff, and offers a dramatic action frame: the white plume rising against dark rock, with rainbow color visible in the spray during morning sun. The upper viewing platform, at the left side of the paved viewing area, gives the cleanest angle, separating the plume from the cliff face and the crowd below. Mid-morning is the strongest light, when the sun is high enough to light the spray without lens flare and low enough to still create rainbow color in the mist; shooting at high tide with a west swell running produces the tallest, most frequent bursts, and the biggest eruptions typically arrive in pairs, so timing a burst with the second of two swells improves the odds of a clean peak shot. The site is busiest and the swell largest from December through March, when Pacific winter storms send larger waves into the cove; summer swells are smaller and less reliable. La Bufadora draws heavy weekend and cruise-excursion crowds, with vendors' stalls lining the walkway to the viewpoint; arriving before 10AM, before tour buses from Ensenada arrive, gives the best chance at an unobstructed spot on the upper platform. There is a small parking fee, and vendors along the approach sell food and souvenirs but do not charge admission to the viewpoint itself. The overlook is a paved, railed platform with no hiking involved, though the final approach includes some stairs and a sloped walkway lined with stalls. Tripods are permitted on the platform but space is tight during peak hours, so a lightweight setup that can be handheld between bursts works better than a full tripod rig. Sea spray coats lenses within seconds during large eruptions, so photographers should keep a microfibre cloth ready and consider a weather-sealed body; drones are not permitted near the blowhole, both because of the crowds below and because gusty, unpredictable air currents rising from the cave make flying hazardous.
